Queer the Pier: A Sonic & Visual Journey through Queer Club Culture

As part of "Pride at Navy Pier Presented by American Airlines"

Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride at “Queer the Pier," a sonic and visual journey through the history of queer club culture. Join us when over 50 of Chicago’s LGBTQ+ artists & entrepreneurs for an evening of free performances headlined by the legendary Cece Peniston, celebrating 20 years of the gay anthem “Finally.”  

Slo ‘Mo’s Audio Jack kicks off the festivities in the Miller Lite Beer Garden  with R&B, disco and house favorites. Puerto Rican vocalist, songwriter, musical theater composer and actor MICHA performing latin rhythms followed by “queer club anthems” from Diana Ross to Robyn performed by Adam Ness & special guests, including Ric Wilson, Bethany Thomas, Tasha, Alexa Grae & Angele Anise and other secret surprises. Following the concert, Kokorokoko presents a fashion show highlighting queer club looks through the decades in the categories of Disco, Leather, Vogue and Club Kid modeled by over 20 Chicago LGBTQ+ nightlife personalities, emceed by bearded beauty Lucy Stoole with choreography by Darling Shear, historical research by Miss Meadows and a live soundtrack by Hijo Prodigo.  Legendary performer Cece Peniston headlines the evening, followed by the Navy Pier Aon Summer Fireworks set to house music, with Lady D closing the show spinning house & disco classics.

“Queer the Pier” is a part of the Pride at Navy Pier Presented by Bank of America daylong program. Click here For a full listing of events at the Pier beginning at 11am. This event is free and all ages and takes place in the Navy Pier Miller Lite Beer Garden at the most eastern end of the Pier. Plan ahead: 10,000 people attend the Navy Pier fireworks and the journey is long down to the beer garden. The Pier is wheelchair accessible, though may become very crowded with high attendance, so please contact slomoparty@gmail.com so we may connect you for additional accommodations should you need them. Parking is available for $28. CTA,  bikes and ride shares are recommended!
